Starving Puppy Found During South Nashville Eviction

NASHVILLE, TN — A 6-month-old puppy who was eating furniture and carpet to survive after being abandoned is recovering at Nashville’s animal shelter.

Metro Animal Care and Control officials found Nugget, a pit bull-Labrador retriever mix, emaciated and close to death Feb. 27 at an apartment on Park Plus Boulevard.

"It appeared that he was starting to eat the furniture," Lauren Bluestone, MACC Director, told WKRN. "He may not have eaten for weeks and was consuming pieces of carpet and a mattress to survive."

In two weeks at MACC, Nugget has added seven pounds and is well on his way to being adoptable.

Nugget was discovered by property management during the eviction process of Quincy Taylor, 20, who apparently abandoned his apartment before being evicted, leaving the dog behind. Metro Police want to speak to Taylor and anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call MNPD.

As for Nugget, he needs a little bit more medical care, but anyone interested in adopting him should call MACC at (615) 862-7928.
